L1 Large Copper Anchor Lantern
Here is a great late 1940s heavy copper and brass big ship's Anchor Lantern/Not Under Command Lantern. Made in Japan by the Sento factory and sold to a shipyard building a vessel for ocean service, this large lantern has been retired from sea duty and restored to its original copper/brass beauty. Its heavy lens is in perfect condition as is the red glass Not Under Command insert.
This type of lantern is carried by ships today in case of a power outage. It is used with the clear lens as an Anchor lantern and when the red glass is inserted, used as Not Under Command which means either the ship's master is not aboard or the ship is without power.
The original oil lamp has been replaced by new socket, wiring and LED bulb to provide a beautiful showpiece. Can be used as a hanging lantern or displayed on a surface. Lantern is 24 inches high with the hanging handle up, 21 inches high with the handle down. 10 1/2 inches in diameter.
This Sento lantern is in rare excellent condition and will be a stand out for your nautical décor.
