W16 Wheel from old Scottish vessel SEA LASS
This magnificent old wheel was the helm of a beautiful Scottish vessel SEA LASS. 34 inches in diameter and 2 1/2 inches deep, the mahogany wheel has been professionally restored. The solid brass hub was left showing its aged patina to give a feeling of the wheel’s age. It could be polished up if you would like.
SEA LASS was built at the Severs Yard at Rosneath, Scotland in 1923. While in her homeland she assisted the Royal Navy in the WW II effort. It is not known how the vessel came to make the trip from Glasgow to Port Townsend in the 1980s. She was featured in the 1987 issue of Classic Boat magazine.
Currently she is stripped of paint and back to basic structure, resting in a Port Townsend boat shed. All hardware has been removed. This great old wheel was sold because of some wood damage which has been restored.
