Co17 Old box compass by J.H.Rowe & Co.
This is a nice old box compass made by J.H. Rowe & Co. of Gloucester, MA.
The J.H. Rowe company made compasses from mid-1800's to the early 1900's. This compass was in a catalog from 1892 selling Cape Ann rain slickers and fisherman's hats.
This compass has a sliding lid on top and the owner's initials "I.E.D" carved into one side. It also has the word "brass" stenciled into another side.
Compass card is 2 1/2 inches in diameter, mahogany box is missing the lid, box is 5 inches x 5 inches x 4 inches.
